JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA: Visited September 2020, November 2022

Joshua Tree National Park was established in 1994. The park is 1242 square miles of unique desert landscape covered in Joshua Trees which are a type of Yucca. This park is easy to drive through with a loop from the Cottonwood Visitor Center to the Joshua Tree Visitors Center through the town of Twentynine Palms. The park offers TONS of desert hikes and quick in and out hikes to see rock structures. There is also tons of camping inside the park. Given the location, the heat in this park can be very dangerous during the summer, so be aware!

QUICK SITES

Joshua Tree’s most popular attractions are quick, right off the road walks to see interesting rock formations and plant life. Because of the extreme heat during the summer, the hikes are limited and usually only suggested to do in the winter

HEMINGWAY

Hemingway is a great place to stop and see some of the larger Joshua Trees in the park.

SKULL ROCK

Skull Rock is on the more famous rock formations in the park. Water dripping has caused erosion to make the rock look like two eyes.

There is plenty of rock scrambling in the area as well and room to explore the area.

HALL OF HORRORS

These rock formations aren’t horrifying. However, just a few hundred feet from the road, there are tons of walk throughs and arches in this area!

OYSTER BAR

This area was right of the road and allows for viewing of desert shrubs and rock formations

CAP ROCK

Cap Rock has lots of rock scrambles!
